About ‘Part of the Solution'

‘Part of the Solution’ is a grassroots program focused on building awareness and promoting the adoption of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV) within commercial fleet operations around the world.

Greenhouse gas emissions are a critical issue for everyone living in an urban landscape around the world. Public perspective is that urban air quality is choking people; illness and death associated with pollution is on the increase. It is a fact that the quality of the air we breathe in most urban downtowns is deteriorating. More and more people living in cities are suffering from respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis, with the elderly and children at greatest risk. A growing number of scientists directly attribute these health effects to the increased levels of smog and airborne particulates caused by vehicle emissions. People are now demanding a cleaner environment. ‘Part of the Solution’ will aid in building consumer trust in companies and governments by aggressively promoting the adoption of vehicles that improve urban air quality, making our cities healthier and more sustainable.

Light- and medium-duty commercial vehicles currently create 25% of the smog in cities even though they account for only 12% of vehicles on the road.

Commercial HEV and EV technology reduce ground level emissions and fuel consumption by 50 – 100%. HEV and EV reduce operating maintenance costs and perform efficiently in the everyday duty cycle of urban fleets.

Business leaders increasingly understand that good environmental management is also good business. By proactively and ethically managing their impact on society and the environment, they can enhance their reputations and ultimately, their financial viability.

By supporting ‘Part of the Solution’ all governments and businesses will demonstrate leadership and take action in meeting the global goals set out in the Kyoto accord.
